Some of the attributes ascribed to God in the Holy Qur'an create a basis for attributing oppression and transgression to the Most Sacred Being. Among these attributes are mockery, deceit, misleading, and support in rebellion. If these types of attributes are taken esoterically, they imply a deficiency in God. This article aims to clarify the actual meaning of these attributes according to Qur'anic exegetes, focusing on the views of Ṭabarsī and Fakhr al-Din al- Rāzī. The methodology adopted in this paper is descriptive-analytical. Based on the findings, the term "mockery" when applied to God can be understood as a form of punishment for mockers, humiliating their status and dignity, and withdrawing divine support and guidance. The terms "deceit" and "plot" attributed to God are used in a rhetorical sense, indicating a precise, calculated, and just strategy in punishing God's enemies—one that those who plot against Him are unaware of. This type of deceit can also be seen as a form of granting respite and entrapment. God does not initiate leading astray; therefore, divine misguidance is a form of punishment that occurs after ingratitude and rebellion. When an individual chooses to pursue misguidance, God abandons them and does not guide them; this withholding of guidance itself constitutes a form of misguidance. Support in rebellion can also be viewed as a type of granting respite and entrapment, which is considered the worst form of divine punishment, often described in various verses and credible traditions as abandoning a person.
