One of the controversial issues among commentators of both sects is the "scope of the Messenger of Allah's (S) forgetfulness" and its "attribution to Satan" in the verse: "But if Satan should cause you to forget, then do not remain after the reminder with the wrongdoing people" (Al-An'am: 68). The present writing, utilizing a descriptive-analytical method, seeks to collect, classify, and comparatively analyze the views of commentators from both sects regarding these two issues. Based on the conducted studies, commentators have proposed three views regarding the scope of forgetfulness in the interpretation of the mentioned verse: "the permissibility of forgetfulness in non-prophetic matters of the Messenger of Allah (S)," "the permissibility of forgetfulness in actions previously conveyed," and "the absolute exoneration of the Messenger of Allah (S) from forgetfulness." Regarding its attribution to Satan, they have presented two views: "creating the grounds for forgetfulness for the Messenger of Allah (S)" and "the address to the Prophet (S) is intended for the community." The outcome of the present research is that, considering various evidences such as context, and Quranic, narrative, literary, and rational proofs, the Messenger of Allah is infallible in all spheres; therefore, although the address in this verse is directed at the Messenger of Allah (S), its primary audience is the general public.
