In the hundredth verse of Surah At-Tawbah, three rewards are considered for the phrase “the first pioneers,” but the difference in thought and the existence of presuppositions has led to a conflict of opinions between the commentators of both sects regarding the meaning of the first pioneers. Another issue is under what conditions the rewards are attributed to “the first pioneers.” For this reason, the present study has examined the views of “Ayatollah Muhammad Saeed Hakim” and “Fakhr Razi,” as two scholars of both sects, using an analytical-comparative method, and has reached the following results: The generality of the word “the first” in the noble verse is confirmed by both thinkers, which is restricted by the condition of migration and victory; however, in terms of the examples of “the first pioneers” and “and those who followed them with good conduct,” the conditions for receiving divine pleasure and the justice of the companions have different opinions. According to Ayatollah Hakim, to bethe"first pioneer" and"follow the good onemust adhere to the two criteria of faith and righteous deeds continuously and always until the time of divine visitation in order to achieve divine pleasure; however according to Fakhr-Razi, the important issue is the pioneering in the migration, and this in itself is the cause of divine pleasure that Abu Bakr achieved this qualification as the first pioneer in the migration. Also, one of the references of the Sunni community to prove the "theory of the justice of the companions" is this noble verse. While expressing his argumentative views in rejecting this theory, Ayatollah Hakim believes thattheeffort of the Sunni community to prove the justice of the companions is to create a parallel path to the infallibilityand purity of the Ahl al-Bayt, and that it is a deviation of Muslims from the path of truth.
