Abstract
The structural interpretation of the Qur'an, as a method of understanding the divine text, has emerged as one of the innovative and attractive fields in contemporary academic studies, gaining significant attention in recent decades. Many exegetes and researchers have ventured into this domain. This method seeks to uncover the intended purpose of the divine text and considers a deep understanding of the intent and subject of the surah essential to achieving this goal. Part of the scientific examination of any method is conducted through comparison and alignment with other scientific approaches. In this regard, the current study employs an innovative "interrogative" method based on criteria and inquiry. By comparing and contrasting various methods, it offers a practical complement to the comparative study of exegetical approaches. The study examines, through an in-depth analysis, the ideas, foundations, sources, tools, rules, and criteria of two relatively similar and shared comprehensive and structural interpretative approaches: Allamah Ṭabāṭabāī’s Tafsīr Al-Mīzān and Dr. Maḥmūd Al-Bastānī’s structural exegesis (Al-Tafsir al-Bināʾī). The study conducts a comparative analysis of their views, focusing on the necessity of identifying commonalities and differences in their approaches, which serve as fundamental and constructive criteria in comparative interpretation. The study highlights their theoretical and practical principles regarding the relationships, connections, and discovery of the purposes of verses and overarching themes in different sections of Surah Ghāfir, as an example from the Hawāmīm Surahs. It aims to develop and expand new concepts by creating a unified, innovative, and comprehensive structural approach that combines different methods and interpretative tendencies. This, in turn, facilitates a correct and effective understanding of the meanings and secrets of the Qur'anic interpretation, offering a new model and a complete outcome to be shared and displayed for future study.
